I imagine that approaching adulthood Nepeta would start turning more sexy (cat girls = cute, cat women = sexy :D) which would make Equius worry endlessly and try to threaten every possible mate. It would fail epically with ladies. Nepeta, on the other hand, would be really good at filtering Equius’ suitors and only the best would get through her. Equius would have no idea how many trolls actually were after his well-defined muscular ass and how well is he protected.
